Time Measurements in Intelligent Substation

Common equipment in intelligent substations mainly includes time server (master clock), protection/test/monitoring devices and industrial Ethernet switches. Only when the time information of various equipment is consistent, can the time in the entire intelligent substation be unified in order to ensure the normal operation of various equipment in the station.

Frequency Measurements on Merge Unit (MU)

The Merging Unit provides a set of current and voltage samples of time synchronization for the intelligent electronic devices. The main function is to get the current and voltage instantaneous values in the power system by collecting or merging the output signals of multiple transformers, and then transport with certain data quality to the electrical measurement and relay equipment. As MU plays a key role in the data acquisition, merging and conversion before the secondary equipment of the power system, it is significantly important to perform synchronization measurements on the merging unit.

Response Delay Measurement on IED

Connecting primary equipment with cable and secondary equipment with fiber, IED can measure and control primary devices like circuit breaker, switch blade and main transformer. As the equipment in process layer, it can gather information within certain intervals, control and monitor some protection equipment like circuit breaker, knife switch and grounding switch. Currently optical fibers with IRIG-B or IEEE1588 technology are commonly used to synchronize IED.

Time Measurements on Industrial Ethernet Switches

Industrial Ethernet Switches are important equipment in telecom networks of smart substations. In addition to data exchange and transmission, it gradually becomes inter-connective part of primary and secondary devices by replacing the traditional cables.  At the same time, it helps to transport the time information transport in the timing system of Smart Substation. Therefore, the performance of the industrial Ethernet switches would has impact on the timing accuracy of various devices and equipment in the intelligent substation, and also affects the normal operation of the equipment.

Performance Measurements on PRC in Frequency Synchronization Network of Power Communication

At present, all the time synchronization systems in substations, power plants and dispatching centers are working on the basis of satellites reference and operate independently. To ensure that the services in each power grid can run safely and stably, it is urgent to establish time synchronization network to meet the requirements of timing reference for various services. The frequency synchronization network is composed of clock node equipment and synchronous clocks. The clock node equipment is divided into three classes according to the performance index. Among them the first class clock mainly includes Primary Reference Clock (PRC) and Local Primary Reference (LPR).
We can provide a comprehensive test solution to verify the synchronization performance of PRC.

Secondary Node Clock SSU-T Synchronization Measurement in Frequency Synchronization Network of Power Communication

The secondary node clock in frequency synchronization network of power communication is a comprehensive timing supply system with Rubidium oscillator in buildings, also commonly called BITS. It is consisted of Rubidium oscillator and satellite receiver. It is different from LPR as the number of rubidium oscillators and satellite receivers does not reach double configurations at the same time. The secondary node clocks are mainly implemented in the communication rooms of municipal companies.
We can provide synchronization performance test solutions for secondary clock equipment.
